Just listening to DP4 (2/13, 2/14/70), and not thinking it's so great. It's an old favorite. What's wrong with me? The DS is great and some other highlights, but I can't stop thinking of other versions of songs that seem better?!?

Why does it matter that other versions seem better? This is what always bugs me about the use of overrated when discussing songs or shows. Just because some seem better to you at the moment, doesn't mean that this one is not great. It means others are greater! Try a glass is half full approach! With DS it becomes an even more subjective issue because they are all so different, well except 10-12-68 and 10-13-68. So its not a matter of it not being so great, its a matter of what mood you are in.

I think what makes the 2-13-70 one so special is not only is it a great Star (although not my personal favorite), it is part of something bigger. I think it is amazing to hear in just a 90 min period 3 very different types of jamming between the DS, TIFTOO and Lovelight. How many other bands could pull this off? I am not a huge Lovelight fan, but this one is my favorite and i think its because it was part of something bigger.

to me the best show ever ...is the one that i was at , at the time! for now its the show im am listening to now!!! every note this band ever played was playesd exactly as it was meant to be played! exactly. anyone that thinks or feels differently, well i guess that is why they were not in the band or at that show! No one's noticed but the band's all packed and goneWas it ever here at all?

i feel the same way sometimes after listening to the same band just different shows, great versions of songs slip through the cracks and it almost becomes a quest to find THE best version. Im a huge fan of The Big Wu and have been for 12 years now and find myself in the same type of situation until i realize its all about who you are with and how much you are enjoying what you are hearing.

It's the nature of the music to seem different depending on when you listen to it. A piece that sounds not so great today might be revelatory another day.
Although, that DS isn't my favorite either; in fact I probably lean more toward the 2/14 jams.

definitely have come to agree based on numerous times ive had shows that i wasnt crazy about and sometimes as much as a year or so later after I get em, Ill pop them in and Ill hear it in a way I never had before and realize the greatness of it. Took me about 2 years to really hear 6/22/74. Different shows stand apart for the overall feeling of them and sometimes the frame of mind as well as the setting/ situation your in accompanies the show and makes it work. Ive found listening to shows from 73 and 76 on the beach always enhance my listening experience.
